Check out TabCandy (Watch the video). http://www.azarask.in/blog/post/tabcandy/ Aza Raskin (Author of TabCandy – His dad started the Macintosh project for Apple) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aza_Raskin This is one of classic example of TRIZ – Merging principle in actions Surprising why it took such a long time to come up with such a basic idea I guess that in general innovation/innovators come up with crude, complex, not-ready mashed up versions of ideas Then it is eventually refined leading to incremental innovations

Altshuller not only classified inventions (based on study of patents), he also classified science fiction concepts, although in a slightly different manner! Not a surpise at all, after all inventions are science fiction till they become reality! In order to study the mechanism of SF, it was necessary first of all to collect ideas scattered in thousands of works, to classify them, and then compile A Register of SF Ideas.

My article ” TRIZ & Fuel Saving Winglets” is published in this month’s issue of The TRIZ journal. I talked about “Building Innovation Capability ; Process of Reverse Ideation” in my last blog post which incidently was my 100th blog post, wherein I said, see a solution addreesing a problem & then go back and find out what, why, when, where, how of the problem to learn more about it. I found this as the best way to improve my own innovation quotient.

For the naysayers, here is the link that illustrates the split brain theory. This theory won Roger Sperry a Nobel Prize. such is the power of the split brain theory. What is the split brain theory ? There are 2 distinct functions in the brain – logical and creative. Roger Sperry’s experiments prove that logical (or commonly left hemisphere of the brain. For south paws, it is interchanged) thinking is associated with verbal, analytical, linguistic abilities.
