TRIZ India

For those who seriously think HOW to innovate

Shankar MV

Unleashing Innovation and IPR in technical institutions

I attended a one-day workshop at SDM Institute (Dharwad) on "Unleashing Innovation and IPR" - I spoke on Creation of Wealth through Innovation.

There were four talks followed by a good panel discussion. Professor Khincha, the Vice Chancellor, gave an excellent key note lecture and shared his rich insights about managing Innovation and IPR. Prof. Sudheendra Rao, Director, shared his thoughts and experience. Dr Ravindra Dastikop, co-ordinator of IPR cell, facilitated the panel discussion. Our fellow TRIZ India member Navneet Bhushan was also in the panel.

A bunch of very fundamental issues were discussed - will a strict IPR policy constrain Innovation? How do we manage IPR in such a way that it encourages & accelerates Innovation? How to redfine IPR management in an open innovation model?

Here are my presentation charts:

It was great to meet Shankar - at last and hear him speak with passion.

His presentation was great. I enjoyed his session a lot.

The panel discussed - a basic question - What is the need for innovation? when only less than 5% of the colleges under the university are taking up the new innovation and IP cell route, does it make sense at all? why others are not taking up something New? are the 5% doing a mistake?

Once they have taken an initial step, then what next?

it was interesting discussion.

ps: since that event, I have been traveling across - 2 days TRIZ workshop in Hosur, One day in Chennai and a session in NID event held at Bangalore - today only I got a chance to respond. My apologies Shankar for the delay - Hope to work together in near future.

The term Innovation itself is like an elephant, which was described by 4 blind men in 4 different ways. To an IP manager like me, innovation is a process whereby the inventions can be spotted by the inventors who learns to prepare the invention disclosures which result in robust inventions; the innovator is a facilitator for the whole process. To an Economist, innovation results in the generation of revenue. To an IP attorney and even an Organization, the role of innovation as well as innovators overlap with that of invention and inventors who feel utterly dissatified with the entire state of affairs and at times keep questioning the relevance of innovation as well as the basic motive of the policy makers. In reality, innovator is at the nucleus of the whole process and is a least understood commodity.

Dear All

We should target to introduce to all engineering colleges in India by Year 2013 (IFR). We need to work backward, by 2010 we should provide introduction to all Deans of Engineering/ Academic council members. To Karnataka I have a short cut through Dr. Kasturiranagan who is the advisor on higher studies to GO-KAR.

Best regards

Presentation is excellent with 61 slides. Examples are truly inspiring.
I learnt TRIZ through class room training in Bangalore, but got it through internship with Mr Navneet Bhushan and his team at Crafitti Consulting, Bangalore on a live project. It is wonderful experience, and I also honoured confidentiality. Internship is better way to get TRIZ and company also gets benefit in terms of work by interns after few weeks. This is common practice in Europe in all areas of Professions. I request you to introduce Internship mode to create skillful manpower in TRIZ.

You can consider devising e-mode of internship to people with Basic TRIZ knowledge. It is similar to Indian Companies working for American IT and other BPO/ KPO works done in India in real-time. You can spread TRIZ to more number of people. I am looking for such e-mode Internship for making truly contribution.
