TRIZ experts,
If you did not spot the release of the next version of Southbeach, I am just sending a note to say that I am hugely excited to be able to now add rules to my Southbeach models.
As well as allowing for the development of a host of your own TRIZ applications - it really opens the platform to pretty much any creativity method out there - either standard, or specific to a modeling context. Some examples here:

* Improvement
* SWOT analysis
* Root Cause Analysis
* Subprime creativity!
* Resource analysis
* 5x5Whys
* Dialog Mapping
* 5 Questions (Use of)
* Design
* User Defined Effects
* TRIZ lists
* Triples and contradictions
* Use in workshop
* Your Creativity
* Six Thinking Hats
* Notation
* Marketing
The improvement example shows how simple it is to add basic rule sets. The SWOT example shows how any separate grid (labeled how you like) can now have rules to generate suggestions, even if agents are not linked by effects. The root cause analysis example shows the way to create some powerful risk management templates. (one client is doing this). The 'subprime crisis' example shows a more complex grid, and what could be done. Dialog mapping is an attempt to support that workshop practice in Southbeach as an interactive application. The example on 'user defined effects' really shows how MyCreativity is very open ended in terms of how it might be applied. This example is getting the interest of some Enterprise Modeling folks. The Triples and Contradictions example shows how to write rules for both classical, and more unusual TRIZ contradictions.
Because of the rich semantics in Southbeach Modeller, there is really no set methodology in the tool, and the rules opens up that even more fully.
I am excited. I hope you are. Either way, always interested to hear your views. For me, the most interesting aspect of this innovation in innovation software, is the ability to bring your own creativity to the tool, and develop templates to use in your work and with your clients. It will be fascinating to see what people create with this.
Perhaps on TRIZ India we could start to develop some rule sets to help people apply TRIZ and related disciplines.
Best wishes,
Howard Smith
